Acer Ferrari One + Fujitsu Amilo Graphicbooster = Working! Who needs the Dynavivid Dock?! (Update)

A couple of days ago I received an email from Acer which said that there is no confirmed release date for the Acer Dynavivid docking station.
So I decided to order the Fujitsu Amilo Graphicbooster instead with the XGP-interface and a ATI Radeon 3870.
Yesterday it arrived and I tried it for the first time: After some driver issues it finally worked, even on the internal LCD-Screen.

Mass Effect looks beautiful with all effects turned on and I scored 5432 in 3DMark2006 without tweaks. Crysis is also playable with high settings and 2xAA.

More soon…

Update: I have added a video:

I have the Acer Ferrari One AND the official Acer Dynavivid Graphics dock.
I’m using the 8.631.1. drivers from Acer’s website.
I can plug it in and it’ll recognise it perfectly but after 10 minutes of using it my system will lock up and I’ll get a blue screen.

For the 10 minutes that it’s working, it’s running great!
Can anyone suggest how I can fix this?

    I finally did it!

Finally Ferrari + amilo Graphic booster = INTERNAL Monitor acceleration on Windows 7 64-bit!

I managed to get hold on one amilo graphic booster and try it out on the Ferrari. Several blogs said that it wasn’t possible, that the amilo booster could not accelerate the internal monitor of acer’s Ferrari. Others said it could but only in windows 7 32 bits and so on…
Well I have a Acer Ferrari F200 with 3 gb of RAM running the 64-bit version of windows 7.

Thinking that the latest Acer dynavivid drivers would be best I installed them, which was a big mistake and whatever I did afterwards with different drivers from the Internet was useless and gave up.
Two months later and for a total different reason I had the operating system reinstalled through the disk image recovery. Later I gave the amilo booster another try.
This time I never installed the acer dynavivid drivers whose pop-up reminding window poped-up once in a while.

This is how I did it (always in off-line mode and with anti-virus down):

1 – I just connected the amilo graphic booster to the Ferrari. The Ferrari tried to find some local drivers for it, didn’t find some and said that it wasn’t correctly installed (only the left blue light of the booster remained on).

2 – I rebooted (remained off-line and with no anti-virus) and still nothing happened and the left blue light remained on.

3 – I then installed these Fujitsu drivers (not acer’s) whose knowledge of existence I don’t quite remember whom or which site I owe to. Anyway I got hold of the link from Fujitsu where I got them from, but simply don’t remember how I got there. Here is the link:

    http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Download/ShowDescription.asp?SoftwareGUID=DD1621DB-CEDD-4EE2-9BDF-B7E4ADC73E5C&OSID=5347BF10-9275-45AE-B9E4-7BCFD719C92B&Status=True&Component=RS780M

Unpacked the folder and executed the setup in it.

The screen went blank several times, got small and big but in the end seemed like normal and it requested a reboot which I didn’t do immediately.

4 – However a window poped-up ( automatically or after right-clicking on the desktop and selecting the catalyst control center, I don’t remember anymore) asking me if I wanted to accelerate existing video monitors (my Ferrari LCD monitor) or additional video monitors. I selected the existing monitor. Screen went blank and came again normally. But the amilo booster was now discretely humming and there were suddenly two blue lights on!

Without rebooting ( I know, I should have) I tried to play Gothic 3 which was unplayable before and to my surprise it run smoothly 🙂

I went back to the catalyst control center and on advanced mode or features when I looked up the Graphic hardware regarding the main adapter chipset instead of the radeon HD3200 there was 3870 written. Hurray!!!

I rebooted and everything runs fine, I connected and disconnected the amilo connection cable several times and whenever I connected it it asks me which kind of acceleration I want existing monitors (internal LCD) or additional monitors (monitors connected to the amilo booster).

I hope this solution and link is of use for anyone out there facing the same problems as I did.
Please let me know if this solution was useful to anyone. Happy gaming!
